The Maeshowe interactive app provides an in-depth exploration of this significant archaeological site, which is part of the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site.

The digital experience allows users to examine a detailed 3D reconstruction of the historic cairn, uncover Norse graffiti dating back to the 12th century, and observe the precise alignment of the entrance passage with the setting sun during the solstice.

ABOUT MAESHOWE

Maeshowe stands as one of Europe's most renowned chambered tombs, constructed over 5,000 years ago. It is an integral part of the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site and is maintained by Historic Environment Scotland.

This digital resource was developed by the Centre for Digital Documentation and Visualisation (CDDV) LLP, a collaboration between Historic Environment Scotland and the Glasgow School of Art’s School of Simulation and Visualisation, established in 2010.
